David Bremner was appointed Principal Trombone of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in 2002. Prior to this appointment he was Principal Trombone of the Auckland Philharmonia.
Born in New Plymouth, David has been a finalist in the NZ Young Musicians Competition, performing 2 concertos with the NZSO, and the Gisborne Concerto Competition. He has a Bachelor of Music degree with Honours from Victoria University studying with Marc Taddei, and a Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, studying with Mark Lawrence.
He was awarded the Pratricia Pratt Scholarship to study in the US, and while there he won the Shenson Young Musicians Competition, and performed as soloist with the Conservatory Orchestra. David was the guest soloist with the National Youth Brass Band of NZ on their tour of the UK and US in April 2003.
He is past winner of the Champion of Champions Solo competition at the NZ Brass Band National Contest, and was a member of the 2003 National Band of NZ. He has performed with the San Francisco Symphony, and the Bay Brass Ensemble. David is a founding member of New Zealand Brass, performs regularly with Stroma (new-music ensemble) and is an Artist Teacher at Victoria University.
When not playing, David enjoys golf, fishing, and socialising.
